Papers of Thomas Johnson Michie, 1781-1816, 1943-1961.

Judge Michie's papers contain routine correspondence with the American Bar Association and the Virginia Straight Democratic Ticket Committee, 1960, and letters of solicitation and congratulations for his appointment as District Judge of the Western District of Virinia. Charlottesville City Council correspondence centers on civic improvement, annexation and zoning, school desegregation and public housing. Michie recounted war atrocities against Italian civilians during the World War II allied invasion in "Aussonia--C.E.F.--"Thank God I Only Kissed Her." Michie's correspondents include Francis Pickens Miller, Absalom Willis Robertson, Hugh Scott and Adlai Stevenson. With the collection are the Hewson family papers consisting of personal letters to Thomas Tickell Hewson from his mother Mary Hewson and Sister Elizabeth Hewson, as well as business letters concerning the fiinancial affairs and estate settlement of Mrs. Hewson.
